A couple weeks ago, I reported that my TC started to stay locked during a drive, causing the drive train to groan and stutter badly, like it was going to break a half shaft. I pulled the AWD control module so I could get home.
Based on the advice I got on this list, I checked and cleaned out the two sensors on the TC, and the system seemed to work again after I put everything back together. But a couple days ago, it started to happen again. This time, those sensors were not fluid soaked as they were before. So now I'm thinking that there's something wrong with the control module; perhaps a component is on its way out, exacerbated by heat of operation.
Are there any self-tests I can invoke on this system?
i would suspect an intermittent shaft speed sensor on the transfer case, one of the two you cleaned....heat and ATF eventually cause them to fail....or intermittent connector...
or go the full step by step troubleshooting in the Ford service manual cd for AWD with the control module connected....more cost effective than throwing parts at problem
Someone very educated poster here told me about this site. It's a pain to download on my computer and took a couple trys but well worth it. It's a truck BTW.
