I recently purchased a certified 2002 Explorer. I didn't know much about "certified" before I bought this truck. They claim the powertrain is covered for 6 years or 65000 miles. Which is a good thing, because we bought the truck without the four wheel drive working. Thats getting fixed at no charge.
Anyhow, my question is, should I have some type of card or paperwork that proves this warranty? I asked my salesman and he said it goes into some Ford master computer and any Ford dealed I go to will know it's covered. Is that true?
They're required by Ford to provide you with a written 6-year/ 75,000-mile warranty (not 65,000 miles) when you take delivery of the vehicle. Keep in mind that not all Ford dealers are Certified Pre-Owned dealerships. Go to the website I've listed below, and put in the dealer's ZIP code in the "Locate a CPO Dealer" box to see if they're on the program:
If they're not CPO, then that would explain why you didn't get the paperwork. Then I'd use the "Contact Us" link at the very bottom of that website to let Ford know that there's a dealer representing themselves as CPO when they really aren't.
