I noticed that Summit Racing is clearing out a 3" dual cat-back exit exhaust kit (PN: SUM-644455) $88! for F-150/F-250. Doesn't include a muffler. Anybody had any experience with this kit or one from summit? Seems like I've read something somewhere that the tubing is kind of thin and rusts out fast? I think I'm going to buy this kit if the quality isn't too bad, they don't have much info about it on the site. Looks like a deal to me. Opinions?
friend had a summit kit on his chevy just like that and only lasted 3 years before it started leaking then finally fell off. and it was welded together
3 years on non-stainless ain't bad considering my CarX cat back system is 19 months old and and already looking bad. They charged me too much for that crap too. I think the pipes were 1 7/8 and I had glasspack put on to save cost. Still cost me $530 for it, but at the time I didn't have a large choice of stores and my 2nd child had just been born, so I just dropped it off and walked home. LOL
I ordered the complete cat back system today with the 3" tailpipes. That was only 149.99, so that still a good deal. I have both my cats gutted and the second one removed with an aftermarket high flow Magnaflow cat installed instead. This should make that installation a little different but nothing I think I can't handle. Hope the muffler doesn't make it too quiet, I like loudness.
Yeah, $149 is a good deal, but that kit for $88 was a steal. I was gonna buy a kit but never got around to it. Guess I will just make my own like always.
Probably will do the same here ken. Although $150 for basically the same system with a muffler (probably Summit's $40 turbo) really doesn't sound too shabby... Rintin69: keep us posted on how it sounds! I'm thinking of going with the same setup as you except running a strightpipe in place of the second cat. Hopefully it will hold up for a while on our salty MN roads...
I had that kit on my truck before with both stock cats intact and it sounded good... really deep and a bit on the mellow side but had a sweet sweet sound at idle. It got louder after a few months but after I took it off I learned it was becuase the muffler was rusting itself from the inside out. Should sound really good sinec you have a highflow cat. Installation was kind of a pain and the pipes didn't line up quite perfect... but for $150 its a good deal.
I just received the 3" kit. Everything looks good cept for one thing. I dont like that typical universal size muffler. Granted, its a turbo muffler, but it looks like it necks down to roughly 2.25-2.5" and looks to stay that size inside the muffler and then is swelled up to 3" again at the outlets. I'll see how it sounds after I put it on, I will most likely end up putting a Y-pipe in the mufflers place anyways.
Most turbo mufflers are built that way. Thats why its best to look inside one before you buy. I know thats not possible buying online, but just a head up for anyone else looking at buying one.
