Unexplained shaking
I was driving the other day and all of sudden it started shaking like the wheel was coming off. I thought for sure I had a flat so I pulled over. It smelled like dead fish, but I didn't see anything wrong. It didn't do it again until yesterday, driving about the same speed 40-45. Again I stopped and it smelled again. This is strange, but I know it's not going to act up for the dealer and they'll give me the run around. I wanted to check with you guys first to see if anyone has had this. Thanks for the input.

Unexplained shaking
I had the same exact problem on my 04 Scab, and it was the emergency brake sticking. Even though it did not light up on the dash, and you thought it was released, it wasn't. Took the vehicle in to the dealer who adjusted the emergency brake, and checked the brakes for damage, there was none. Since that time 8 months ago no problems.

Here is how the dealer wrote it up when it happened to me.
"Concern: Has Rear Brakes Hanging up...vibrating
Correction: Found E-brake accuators frozen...removed L+R Rear Wheels, Calipers, Rotors to Gain Access. Removed, free up, and antiseize both accuators and reassembled.

Oh do I ever know that scarey feeling and smell! My seat is still stained. My dealer was unable to resolve the problem (despite my exact diagnosis) but then again anything over an oil change is taxing their abilities.

Scary shake
I had the same problem and the dealer repaired it. They had to replace the brake shoe hubs and the shoes. One hub had turned the hubs blue. As with you it was very scary and the only way to stop it was to pull over. There is a TSP on the shoe tolerances.

I had my 8 year old son with me and we were supposed to just run to the video store when the truck started shaking. I thought we'd be out there changing the tire on the side of the highway. It was annoying and a bit scary, but I'm glad the tire wasn't flat.

not just a Ford problem. Had a 02 4x4 Avalanche. The parking brake always went to the floor since picked it up with 2 miles on it. After about 60000 a local dealer asked if had the e-brake serviced. The advisor looked at and said its not working, I
replied than it never has since been that way since new. No smell, feeling, nothing but the rear rotors were completely torn up, a $700 to me. I felt this was a design flaw and chevy should have stepped up. Advisor said finding lots of them but GM will not fix it.

I made an appointment with the dealer and told them what I (we) think is the problem, they say, "I doubt that's it, but bring it down and we'll check it out". I'll probably get it back with the typical response, "we couldn't get it to do anything out of the ordinary".
