Spark Plug Removal

Spark Plug Removal
I have a problem. I added a set of headers to my 1954 Ford F100, 239 Y-Block, Overhead valve V8. The headers are made specifically to us on the Y-Block in an F100 pick up. However now that they are mounted I cannot get a socket or wrench on the spark plugs to remove them. Has anyone else run into this problem and is there a special socket or wrench made for this purpose?

I don't have that problem with mine, however I recall having a few vehicles with some horses that did have the same problem. There is a couple of options. I know they make whats called "thin wall sockets" (most tool guys carry them and I believe Craftsman has them also), and some are made specific for spark plugs. They are thin and get into the tight areas. You can also use a socket extention and put a rubber hose over for flexibility (mainly to start the new plug). You may have to try different style sockets. (short/ long). If you have a lathe or a good grinder you grind down your own socket, just don't go too thing or it will snap. Good luck.
