I just ordered a complete seal kit for my power steering box, in my 76 f100. Just wondered if anyone has rebuilt one of these, and if there are any particular tips I should be aware of. THANKS!
Check out this link. Mine is a 78 f-150 but the pics were fairly helpful in a few sections. I have a video camera that I use to film any major overhaul. I have a full video of rebuilding my 351W and let me tell you it came in very handy when i was looking at the extra plugs that go in the camshaft thrust plate area. http://4x4.forensick.net/88bronco/images/sbr/index.htm
Thanks for that article, it looks very helpful. Kinda funny, someone in the 4x4 section just gave me the link to the same article Cant wait to get this leak stopped. Then it's just off to rebuilding the 9" (oh boy oh boy)
I can't seem to find it right now, but I recall a nother thread on this in which someone who had done it said they ended up with recirculating bearings all over the floor, at which point he went and bought a rebuilt unit. I too have a fluid leak, but was thinking of just getting a rebuilt unit for that reason. Hope it goes well for you. We'd love to read the final report...
I'll let you know how it goes, the rebuilt units run around 300bux without the additional core charge (which doesnt apply here anyways) which is outta my immediate budget. On the other hand, I doubt this will be as involved as other projects i've taken on, dont think i'd want it to be a first project either. We'll see how it goes
I bought a rebuilt one at AutoZone for around $179. I tried to rebuild mine, but i messed it up somehow. I know a guy who works at the Ford assembly plant in Indianapolis and build these things, and he said these are some of the most difficult ones to build.
