GEM replacement then flash upgrade?
Problem: Washer fluid low indicator on all time.
Troubleshot down to the GEM that all these functions are controlled through. Then read on my service manaul CD that if I was able to get the GEM out and replaced that I would need some special gizmo and cable to "flash upgrade" it.
That would seem to limit this repair/replacement to the dealer and that sucks!!
The GEM is located on the "back" of the interior fuse panel and is a *bear* to get to and to get out.
Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated.
I think you'll find instructions for replacing the GEM in the F-150 forum.
Basically you remove the dash trim under the steering column, remove the 2 big connectors off the back of the fuse box, unbolt the fuse box/GEM, then unplug the connectors and remove the fuse box/GEM.
