One of my generator vendors at work found out my 02 diesel has only 32000 miles and he wants it. We talked again today and he still wants it. I am seriously considering letting it go. It is a sc lb 2wd auto with 3.73 and the limited slip rears.
I found a truck on a lot in Wisconson 900 miles away that I'd like to have. It is a fair price. 03 350 crew srw 4x4 6speed 7.3 same color and has the backup sensors like my current truck 50k miles
I dont race right now, so I can deal without a truck for some time. I just have the concern of buying a used ride. IMO these trucks are dogged or babied. Thoughts, input, etc.
Trucks are outrageous here since Katrina, so I'll have to travel a bit to get what I want at a fair price.
it's your rig.... it's up to you... i KNOW i would be lost without my mule..! i worked with a guy who sold his... then bought another one 6 months later... but the one he had was a better truck... he regretted it a little...
i wouldn't mind having a 6 speed, but i don't dislike the auto enough to sell my rig... besides... when this tranny goes, i'll just put in a monster box or some other stout tranny and i'll never have to worry about it again...!
If this guy gives me what I want, then the truck may find a new home. As far as the auto goes, I dont want an auto this time around because I am buying used. I like to just plant my right foot and hang on, but I dont know what the owner may have done to the auto tranny. Plus I figure sticks are a little cheaper to buy. I have not seen a new or used manual truck on the lot in my area.
Anything that I should watch out for when buying the next truck? I would assume that rust is not likely to set in from road salt on an 03 yet. Any issues with the syncro's in the tranny or just anything at all?
Id probably have to get a small loan to cover the difference. Damn my 02 is paid off to boot. I'll have a couple of weeks to mull it over.
Any tips for buying out of state?

I'd move on that six speed or someone else will get it. They are the ones to get for a hard working truck.
I love my six speed.
Especially now with the new fuel pump in. Ever had a 10,000 lb truck put you back in your seat?
One more Q related to this subject. Salt and Rust: If driven 2 years in the snow and salt, is the truck damaged and prone to rust, or removed from the salt, cleaned and all is OK? Whats the verdict. I know nothing about salted roads, snow and ice.
It's a good bet that a northern truck had a dealer applied undercoating. Two winters shouldn't have done any damege even if it hasn't....but it will need a thorough cleaning.
Thanks. If the end works out like I hopw, I'll pressure wash everything a couble of times to make sure. Just to wait on the buyer of my truck to get his butt in gear now.
I bought my truck after it spent a year on the Oregon coast. Salt spray winds. It rusted pretty good here and there, but mostly just medium depth surface rust. After I got it away from there it stopped.
i have a 2000 F-250 with 200,000 miles on it and i live in wisconsin and i have no problem with rust. just keeping it clean will be enough to keep the rust from starting an 03 shouldnt have any.
also where in wisconsin it it?
Phase one completed. 02 supercab LB is gone. Sold it to the guy that I was originally talking about. Of course the truck in wisconsin is gone. I am going to look for the perfect truck for a little while. I have a company vehicle and my wife has an 05 SUV, so I am covered. Nice to have a chunk of change in hand.
My truck has no rust problems (other than 2 failures on brake lines that likely held salty snow for too long) after spending 2 1/2 years in NH. It has resided in LA a.k.a. lower Alabama for the last 3.
