Ford Doc Any Idea

2004 6.0... Trucks been running great... Yesterday drove it to work ran like a charm... Truck sat 10 hours in plant parking lot... Cranked it up to go home and it sounded louder than my 95 7.3... Rough idle... Engine shook in high gear like a gas V8 motor running on 6 cylinders between 45 and 65mph... Any idea's before I take her to the shop... Motors got 23,000 miles and has not had the latest re-call done yet...

Thanks

Give him a chance, he may be on Christmas vacation. I hope you get your truck back soon.

Agreed. Doc not only works for a living but, is on multiple sites. This one probably isn't his most favorite, so he doesn't peruse all the threads.

In addition, the first thing he likely would have advised is to take it in and get the recall done.

Hopefully, your dealer will get it right for you.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Nothing meant bad towards Doc... I'm sure he's not been available... Got a call from service... Turns out it's one injector not three... They are saying I purchased some bad fuel (with water) and crapped the injector therefore I should have to pay for the repair... Told service that my truck was purchased with a trouble light indicating water in the fuel to protect the fuel system and that it had not alarmed...

Told the service department better check out the trouble light as to why it got no alarm... The 6.0 trouble water alarm is much more sensitive than my 7.3... Hate to say it but I think they are trying to get me to pay for the failed injector... It is a fact that Ford has a serious injector problem with some 04 builds... Any thoughts???

Merry Christmas

The first thing I would do is tell the Service guy to merrily kiss my buttocks.

Then I would tell them that if they are going to deny warranty for this claim that you want the reason stated in writing.

Being in Texas, many of us would like to know the name / location of this dealer that would take this position.

Good luck.

IF they can justify the fact that you had water in your fuel - you should be able to pass the repair costs onto your fuel supplier.

I thought that the water in fuel warning light was supposed to give you enough advanced warning to avoid damaging your engine. The light never illuminated? To me, that states that Ford's failed warning light is the cause of the damage. Am I wrong here? I personally think you are on the right track by demanding they fix both the fuel water separator, water in fuel warning system, and as well as the injector that failed as a result.

Then again, if BigF350 didn't mention this, then I could be all wrong. He knows alot more about that kind of stuff than me.

It depends on the situation - but if the fuel warning light didn't come on I would be making some noise about it.

They would have to prove that
1. YOU caused the warning light to fail.
2. It was water in the fuel which caused the injector to fail.

In my humble opinion they haven't got a leg to stand on....

I agree BigF350... Problem is the warning light... I got no warning light while driving the truck... I had the truck towed to the dealership... They drove the truck into the service area with no warning light on... They can repair the injector and I can go after the fuel supplier for the costs but if the warning light is not working properly it's a matter of time before it happens again...
Thanks

from what i hear from the area ford deisal techs around hear ,they are having a lot of 6.0 dieing from low fuel pressure and it takes out the injectors.during enhanced diad/powerbalance test the computer shows only a few cylinders dieing then after the injector replacment the computer fails the rest. so they end up putting all 8 injectors in.ford in a bad way with the 6.0 right now.

Good news... Service called, Ford is going to replace bad injector... They are going to trouble shoot and repair the seperator water alarm... Thank you Ford... Also going to flush injectors, drain tank and replace filters is on my dime... I will try and recover those costs from my last fill-up service station...

Again thanks for the comments and Merry Christmas to each of you...

Before they make this your responsibility to go to the service station, make sure the dealer gives you a letter stating that you had water in the fuel. I've had some experience with this on a gas engine and it was a little bit of a hassle - you deal with the service station's insurance company.

With all the above advice about how Ford is having fuel pressure problems, I'd make the Ford dealer prove it's water. Especially since the warning light never came on.

Same thing just happened to a 7.3 at work. Our fleet manager had the ford dealer document water in fuel. Ford provided paperwork showing 50/50 water/fuel (!) and saved samples from the drained tanks for us.

If it's not too late as ford to document and save samples.
