has anyone ever installed cab clearence lights on there rig?
I've got a set of stock lights,Picked up a nutsert rivet gun, even have the wiring harness...now just need some good tips...
I have some new factory F-350 light's I have been wanting to install on my 150 but have never got around to it because of not knowing how much of a PITA it might be.
So if you come across any information besides what comes up in this thread, please post it.
I'm actually about to do the same thing. I know of people who have done it. They weren't mechanically inclined in any way shape or form. It would literally take 8 of them to change 4 spark plugs and they still did it. I'd say space them out right and hook them into the parking lights so they will be on whenever those are on. Thats about all I know!
Here's my problem, I have no/metal head liner (trucks an XL), if I put them on won't the wires be hanging down? If so I'm not up for having wires hanging and holes in my roof.
Ohhhh damn you got a problem lol. I've got an XL also but I was blessed with a saggy cloth headliner! (DAMNIT!) lol. I guess you could do a little searchin around at bone yards and see if you could get yourself a new headliner. Although I wish I had the metal headliner so I could use magnets to slap things like important papers to the roof and not worrying about losing them!

I wouldn't do that.. I tried it with a few things an always ended up getting hit by falling stuff while driving off-road, and a CB mic with a big magnet doesn't feel to great... (don't ask, I have no clue how it happend with the CB mounted under the dash..) But paper should be OK, just nothing heavy.

Easy as pie...
Five lights, 10 tiny holes for the sheet metal screws, and five larger holes for the not-included grommet with the wire in the center. Soldered them all together, coverd that with heat shrink tubing, and attached it to a switch in my rewired chrysler overhead console.
hey the wires that go to the lights go in between the two layers of sheetmetal that make up the cab roof. the roof top inside isnt the top of the outside of the cab. run the wires in between the 2 and down the a pillar, under the trim.
The real question about roof clearance lights: for our era trucks, should they be evenly spaced (ie. O--O--O--O--O) or a cluster of three in the middle and one at each side (ie. O---O-O-O---O) ?
All the early 90's trucks I've seen on the road around here have them evenly spaced, but all new trucks seem to have the cluster-of-three...
I'm probably going to get the OEM-style set from jcwhitney.com one day....
yea..I like the cluster look.I havent tried to pull the headliner down yet.It apears to be cloth attached to cardbourd.as soon as I get started Ill have to take some pics to share......
