just cleaned out the manual locking hubs on my dana 44 hd front axle(1977). the manual says to use "molly xl hi-speed grease" (lightly) during reassembly. the local auto parts shop said they never heard of this stuff. they suggested industrial molly ep grease. it says on the pkg. for use on wheel bearings, u-joints and automotive chassis. is this stuff ok to use, or should i keep looking for the xl hi-speed stuff?
You only need a very light coating. Don't gob it on. I put a coat on the locking hubs and then wipe off excess with my hands or a towel. You don't want it dry but you don't want chunks either.
I don't personally know why they recommend a light coat, but my Chiltons and Haynes manuals say this.
