I just purchased a Reese hitch to install on my 96 XLT so I can stop using the step bumper to pull my boat. In looking at how the hitch bolts to the frame I noticed that my stock trailer light plug is going to have to be relocated to make way for the new hitch. Where have most of you moved this plug too? It's raining cats and dogs here right now so I haven't had a chance to crawl around under the truck and look for the best new location. It would be helpfull to hear what others have done before I take a look.
You mean the 7 pole connector under the bumper? You can drill a big enough hole in the bumper (have to do the alignment tab with a Dremel) and have it mounted on either side of the license plate.
Yes, the 7 pole plug. It looks to me like it's curently mounted on the very end of the passenger side frame rail which of course will be right where the new hitch will be mounted. I was thinking more along the lines of mounting it to the bottom of the bumper unless I hear any better ideas from someone who's done this already. Like I said I haven't crawled under the truck yet to take a good look.
I had mine attached to the hole supplied in the Reese hitch, trailer side of the 2x2 square tubing, but with it being so low it kept getting attacked by everything. I had to replace the connector 3 or 4 times in 2 and a half years. Everytime I wanted to use the trailer connector it was shorted (and it killed the lights on me a couple times too...).
