cruise control

my cruise control went out the other day and I took it to the stealership and asked the parts man what might be the cause and he thinks it might be the switch in the horn pad. my question is has anyone ever removed one of these (no airbag) and can it be done without tearing it up?

I just worked on my cruise control for my 97 this summer. The center part of the steering wheel that has the horn and cruise control switches just has to be pulled straight back towards you to get it off. It just snaps into place. You want to be careful when you pull back because the wires aren't very long. Mine didn't have a problem with the switches, it had one of the pins broke that makes contact with a round copper plate under the steering wheel. There are 3 pins and 3 rings. You have to pull the steering wheel to get at it.
