Very unlikely.
Misfires are usually due to plugs, wires, or coils.
Does your CEL/SES light come on or flash (does it work when it's self-tested at powerup?) when accelerating?
If it hasn't yet, you can usually persuade it to come on by inducing the misfire condition for a longer period of time.
If you can pull the misfire codes (or the misfire counts), the diagnosis gets a LOT simpler.

I had the same problem with a 1998 Expy 4.6L that I use to own. The best way I could describe it would be a "fish bumping the line" whenever I accelerated.
