Were the 87-91s clear coated or layered?
Just wondering because alot of f-150s are really faded and I'd like to bring out the beauty in the one I want to get. Thanks.

not sure myself but know that all manufactorers had major problems with fading and peeling. I think they tried to save a lot of money and screwed the consumer (unknowingly) on the coverings- didin't take much to cover a thousand cars. I have a friend that is a master detailer and brings nearly any paint back to life- not as much paint to work with.

Hows that for taking up you time and not answering your ?? I owned two in that era and thought that they were cleared- remembering the single stage coming out or being more popular later- i also was guilty of scracting the clear with the wrong wax etc.

the quickest way to tell if it is clearcoated . is to take a piece of fine sandpaper 1000 grit or finer and lightly sand a small spot some place that is hidden . if it shows up white on the sandpaper its clearcoated if it shows the color either you sanded too much lol . or its layered. this will only work if the vechicle is not painted white to begin with . i think this is the answer you are looking for ?
