hey guys, i know this as been posted before...but i have a "chipped" key and Ford wants 110 bucks to make a spare!!! im trying to get remote start put on my truck and i need two keys to program it...i need help!!! does any one know where i can get a spare cheaper?? i live in upland...please help!! thanks
If you have a second key you can program a 3rd one by yourself.
With only 1 key you're probably stuck with taking it to your dealership and having them do it for you. Some locksmiths have the equipment needed to program keys but not too many. You may want to call around and see if any in your area do.
I have a Viper installed in my '03 Screw. I paid extra for a module, I think made by DEI. It was stuffed in my stearing column, up near the ignition. It "acts" like the chip when remote start is triggered. So I don't need some spare key stuffed in the truck to make the remote start work. And that's the way I wanted it.
But I have a Viper model that has the remote page back. Awesome distance too.
FWIW, the first dealer I called wanted 110 for a 2nd key. The next dealer I called wanted $60. I've been dealing with dealer #2 ever since.
Funny how they are like that, I always phone three dealerships close to where I live and find quite a difference in price range. One was motorcraft filters and the second was sparkplugs, wonder why.
There are bypass kits that only require one key to program and and no extra key to be in the vehicle. It all depends on your make and year. I'm in the same boat. Only have one key for the truck I bought used and don't want to spring for a new set from the stealership. My wife just bought me a Viper remote start system, but I'm waiting on my bypass kit before I can install it. Check this link...http://www.bypasskit.com/ ... Good luck
hey guys, thanks for the posts. ya they required a second key to program my remote start, dont really know why, but everything is working great. i called around and found a locksmith that made an extra key for 50 bucks!! so happy about that!!! aka moral of the story...dealer=, locksmith=
