Oil Leak

My 03 with 70k has a rear main leaking. This one should be covered under warrenty right, with the $100 deductable? I'm one that doesn't like to have things wrenched but know it will take some wrenching on this repair. What all is involved in this repair and just how deep does the dealership mechanic have to go to get to the problem? I assume that the pan comes off and do they have to remove the automatic transmission? Thanks

Tranny has to come out. Oil pan stays on. It's a one piece seal that bolts in place.

You're sure that's it's not a leak on the top side thats running down the back?

I would look reaaaaaaaal close at the top side first. turbo pedastal, hpop lines or rear head plugs for oil galley

yeah, i would check the top of the engine, to see if the valley has oil in it. if oil is running down the back of the engine, down the bellhousing of the transmission, and dripping off the oil pan/weep hole, it is probably the turbo pedestal o-rings. i would check there before you get too hyped up on a rear main leak. they arent common.

My truck developed an oil leak, dripped of the inspection cover as well. Ended up being a bad o-ring on the oil rail plug on the front side of the passenger head.
I definately agree with these guys about checking every other possible source of an oil leak before tearing into it.

Mine only has 26k on it....
They are doing the dye test to find out where the leak is coming from....

Either Turbo boots or O rings could be the culprit. Try tightening the clamps on the Turbo Boots. That was what my problem was. easy fix. Now I check them periodically to make sure no leaky.
