I think I know the answer to this question, but would like some feedback, please!
On my 1985 F150 the lower radiator hose is cold. All the time. Even after warming up and driving all over the place. I have had the truck since June of this year, but never bothered to grab the lower hose until today (didn't think I would need to).
I would assume that I have a plugged up radiator or some other obstruction in the cooling system?
If so, would a simple flush potentially solve the problem?
It's never a bad idea to do a flush and replace the hoses if they haven't been done in a while. The lower hose takes fluid from the radiator and goes to the water pump intake. So you're feeling cooled water.
Best case, it just means the radiator is doing a great job. I would expect a radiator to be able to drop the temperature of coolant quite a bit in Fargo this time of year.
That's right. When it's cold outside, the thermostat slows the flow so the coolant spends more time in the radiator. If your engine temperature is normal, there is probably no problem.
