Hey guys just wondering if the 99-03 bumper will fit on the 97-98 trucks. i like the look of the newer ones better than mine, not to mention mine has a big dent and i was gonna replace it and would like to upgrade as long as its simply a bolt on. thanks.
if you are talking front bumper, then no it wont. im not sure about the rear---it should fit---but not sure. you might be able to change the whole headlight/ grill piece and do a later bumper....just not sure
Those bumper to frame mounting brackets, what exactlyare those, and how do they fit? Do they bolt on direct?
Looks like a fat X. There are brackets welded to the frame which the bumper brackets bolt to(2 bolts each side). Those brackets (which are different 97-98 to 99-03) are what the bumper bolts to (4 bolts each side).
Ahh ok, Because someone changed the grill on my 97, to a newer grill, but not the bumper, so I am going to change the bumper over, just wasnt sure all what was involved.
Smaug, I just noticed 2 things on your list that are not needed:
(1) 1999-2004H Left Bumper-to-Frame Mounting Bracket
(1) 1999-2004H Right Bumper-to-Frame Mounting Bracket
97-98 will work fine with the 99-03 "Bumper Braces"
As will the:
1) 1999-2004H Left Grille Shell black plastic deflector
(1) 1999-2004H Right Grille Shell black plastic deflector

I did trim my deflectors down to fit but the brackets have different part numbers.
Smaug, What did you use to connect the upper pad to the bumper? My parts guy showed those little "thing-a-majigs" to retail for almost $5 bucks a peice x 11 of em.
Bet that was hard to tighten huh... I used some extra large (5/16) black push in type plastic pins (like the ones used on the plastic deflectors, and some 5/16 star lock washers.
