timeing question

i know this will get sent to the 4 cyl section, but i think it will get answered better in here.( i hope ) i have a 86 2.3 ranger. we have talked about it in the dead ranger thread.i have my head back on and ready for the timeing belt. in the book and in other thread's you say #1 in bottom left corner.on the old dist cap, #1 is clearly stamped with a raised #1 in the bottom right corner. i know it will run were ever you put #1 at tdc and #1 to #1 cyl.but i thought i would get other thought's on this.i am going with the book. the new cap has nothing on it.

It sounds like you have a good understanding of the subject. I'm not sure I know what your asking. If it is where was the dist rotor pointing from the factory you can look at the old cap and wires. If you can't tell from it I guess someone will have to look at an 86 2.3l engine and assume no one has changed that one.

no it does not matter which port on the cap you use provided it is a tdc and the rotor is pointing to it.
