I have a 02 Escape with 95,000 and have not really had any major problems with it. Well the other day I started it up and drove about 100ft and wham it just died. I tried to start it and nothin it doesn't even turn over. No Power at all. When I turn the key nothing. All the tires are locked cannot shift into any gear. I checked the battery and it has a charge. I checked all the fuses and they all looked good.
Any ideas on what to check next or what it could possibly be?
If not the fuseable link, more than likely the onboard computer bit the dust...this is rare, but it does happen and when it does, the vehicle does absolutely nothing...I would say an electrical problem more so. You got lights and horn? If it is just not starting, could be one of the electrial cables going to the starter has rotted away or come disconnected from the starter somehow..good luck man...
Thanks for the guideance I checked the fuseable links, fuses, battery. I guess next is the onboard computer. Is there anyway to bench test it and where is it located?
Update on the loss of power. Dealer is telling me I have a leak (windshield) and they have to replace the inside fuse panel and GEM module. I did a quick search and the GEM module is located under the dash. $200.00 for the water man to identify the leak and $900.00 to replace the fuse panel and GEM module. So if anyone out there has wet floor mats beware big $$$ to replace the fuse panel and GEM module.
