Question CCV Mod Hose Diameter?

What Diameter hose is needed for the CCV Mod? I have 30+ feet of blue silicone heater hose that's been laying around in my shop forever. I might have finally found a use for it if it fits. It's 5/8" I/D. Will this work??

Thanks Much!

i used 1/2'' ID/ 1'' OD heater hose. it works well, since the ID of the 90* boot is 1''. it just fit in there nice. what you can do, is shave some off the outside of the hose, and stuff it into the elbow and superglue it like i did. i have pics of it in my gallery.

If you want to avoid super gluing, etc, you'll need a 3/4" ID hose if you want to attach it to the tube exiting the breather on the valve cover.

I'd suggest reversing the breather and have it facing the firewall. Makes for a neater hose run.

Thanks all. Sounds like I've finally found a home for all that hose! I'll certainly take your advice and reverse the housing. It sounds like the 5/8" will work with a little elbow grease to fit it on the 3/4 in outlet. Does anybody have any suggestions for plugging the fitting on the intake tube support thing? Should I cut away the little inlet that sticks up into the intake tube support thing?

Thanks again!

Go to the muffler shop and get 3-1/2 inches of 4-inch diameter muffler pipe. Replace the entire plastic piece with it.

Much better cross-sectional area, thus better flow.

By the way, that's REAL nice heater hose with which you're going to pass the blowby.

Why didn't I think of this!! That's what this place is for.......so I don't have to think so much! I am in luck. I have about 5 inches of 4" tube left from my Kwikfilter install! I needed a 45 degree elbow and had to hack about 5" off one end to make it fit! I almost chucked it, but thought.....I better rat hole this thing in case it comes in handy later!

I'm in business. Thanks much!

Be careful when cutting the exhaust tubing. Depending upon the gauge of the tubing, it will distort and become out of round which can cause a potential boost leak if it doesn't clamp to the tube securely.

Time for another stupid question: I see the CCV mod mentioned and listed often, I've searched the past articles and found tons of stuff on how to complete the CCV mod. But what the heck is the purpose of the CCV mod? What is the benefit over the stock setup? What the heck is a CCV?

Thanks from "the ignant one"

CCV - Crank Case Ventilation The CCV mod reroutes the oil mist from the CCV hood to the atmosphere rather than sending it into your intercooler system and making a mess of the boots and potiential blowing off of one of the boot connectors during high boost conditions.

Besides removing oil form the intercooler and pipes, the stock CCV itself is a major restriction on the intake. The vent bridges the tubeand causes about 20% restriction.

There is a picture of the stock CCV in this album.

Price for me. FREE!

It was given to me a year or so ago by a friend who used it when he was assembling his kitfox airplane. I'm not sure exactly what the application was, but he bought WAY too much and just handed it to me when he was done. I didn't realize the price of the stuff!! ($10.00 per foot!!). I probably should have given him my first born! Maybe I'll just buy him a beer.

You might consider using any you have left over to replace the heater hoses on your truck. They will NEVER wear out.

The stuff is available in most standard sizes, at VERY un-standard prices, and the OTR gang uses it a LOT!
