dana 44 front end
I have a 77 highboy with a dana 44 front axle that the ring and pinion is ruined and I was wondering if I could use one out of a 1974 closed knuckle front end or not. Thanks

first your 74 axle must have the ratio as the 77---The spring perches must be in the same place on each axle---and IF your 74 has drum brakes instead of disc brakes like the 77 has----you would probably want to install a new proportioning valve that accommodates drum brakes on Both front and rear axles--I believe the pressures for drum brakes on both axles is different than disc on front and drum on back----Closed knuckle axles are known for being HARD to grease as well as maintaining a good seal on the axle shaft----You would be wise to just fix the ring and pinion of your existing axle---fd

The ring and pinion should be identical. Just make sure the gear ratio is the same. Also be sure to shim it correctly.
