Has anyone ever thought about putting a power lock on their tailgate lock?I keep mine locked so my tonneau cover won't walk away but it's a pita when I need to unlock it with the key if my hands are full.any thoughts or ideas?
It can be done...Using a power door lock actuator ...ya just have to figure out if it is a rod or cable type lock (I am leaning towards rod). I mean anything can be done...you just got to get access to the lock and actually see what you will need...plus then you will have to run the wires so it will make removing your tailgate another job...If i am not mistake...I think I remeber Chris Adams saying he did this to his truck. Look up his name and maybe you can send him a message inquiring about it.
390xr7..I installed a Pace-Edwards power tailgate lock. Very easy to do. Just make sure you wire it to the PASSENGER lock circuit; that way it won't cycle open/close every time you open the driver's door (reduces cycling of the unit by a lot!).
I have pix in my gallery ("Tail end mods"). PM me if you want further details.
I used one of these. Install was easy, but it did take a little bracket tweak to work right. This was in 04, so I would hope it is fixed and just a simple bolt in and wire splice.
Here is a link to a product called POP LOCK. I have on and it's installed in my 05 F-150.
I purchased it from AZTRUCKS. The link is below.
Works like a charm.
I tied it into the right side door wiring. That way is not acuated everytime you lock/unlock the truck. Just when you also unlock the right side.
Thanks for all the options guys.DonsFx4 you have some great pics of the install,I'll have to wait till the warmer weather comes around again so I can do the install.
