66 300ci rebuild

hey everybody i'm new to the site so this might be something that has been discussed before...but i have a 66 F100 2wd with a 300ci and 3 on the tree. i pulled the engine because i want to rebuild it. i know it will be no high horsepower beast but my goal is to squeeze every bit of torque out of it that i can. ive already got headers and dual exhaust and im planning on upgrading almost everything in the engine, ie carb, intake, cam, the whole nine yards. my question is what would be the best setup as far as boring the cylinders and shaving the head? remember i want to maximize torque...should i just talk to the machine shop and see what they think is best? or has anyone done this before and know anything that does or doesnt work? any advice tips suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

thanks in advance
Michael

how much cash do you have?? i would skip shaving the heads. just use a thinner head gasket. i also woul not bore the engine more than it needs. myself i would buy a reman long block and get the 70k warranty then add the cam and your other items. a reman 300 runs 1,200.00 the machine shop will want that for the machine work.

Michael-go to the forum list and scroll waaay down to the bottom part under "General Engine" and select the inline six forum for help on the 300 I6. There are plenty there who can advise on upgrades.

ford390gashog: well the thing about buying a long block is that the 300 i have probably has less than 5000 miles on it. the guy i bought the truck from is a family friend and he had a crate 300 put in it in 1995. soon after he got hurt at work and had several back surgerys so he quit driving it besause the 3 on the tree was uncomfortale for him. when i got it it was bone stock from the ground up. i want to keep it fairly stock looking on the outside but i do want to build the motor. O and really there is no set spending limit for it as it will be built over time piece by piece as cash and my schedule allow

Putt: thanks for the suggestion i will check it out and see what those guys have to say about it

Have you looked at Clifford for parts? They've got pretty much anything you would need to wake up that 300. You may want to start your search there. Also as was suggested, check out the inline six forum that is here. Good luck with that six. I'm thinking about building a 300 for my 66, also. To me, it's hard to beat a Ford I-6 for a reliable engine.

yeah ive looked at clifford. my cam is probably going to come from them. i did find the Offenhauser c series intake at summitracing.com for about 80 bucks cheaper than clifford. basicly i want the best stuff for my engine but if i can find components that are just as good for a better price then i'm all for it
