On my 79' F150, at the end of the steering shaft, it has a large metal piece, then a rubber piece, then it ties into the steering box with a couple bolts. At least that's what I remember it looking like.
Is this what is refered to as a rag joint?
To freshen this up to be safe, is there a specific part or something I can get?
Do I just need to put in a new rubber piece?
I'm trying to tighten up my steering some, when I jack up the truck and pull on the front wheels top to bottom and side to side, I get no movement. I figure this means my tierods and balljoints are holding good for now?
They are cheap and pretty easy to replace. If it's old and rotted, might as well replace it. Most parts stores can get a new rubber disc for about $10.
