If you buy the pipe from jegs and put the sticker on you window, that's good for at least 50hp. But nothing if you don't use the sticker. Like the guys said, you won't gain much, but is sure does sound good straight piped. But definatly lose the stock downpipe.
There always has to be someone that disagrees! My 3" downpipe with the stock exhaust (no cat or muffer) sounded horrible. When I would pass a truck or cement barrier the sound would bounce back. I hated it and had people asking me what I did to the truck. My Bassani sounds great!

Yeah... I know. There are a few people that don't like the straight pipes on my Harley.
Whatever you do you must consider replacing the stock down pipe when you do this. If you take a look at our site you'll see what a stock down pipe looks like and you'll see whay it impedes flow so much and causes high EGT's too! We have down pipes available in aluminized and stianless as well as cat test pipes for our down pipe or a stock down pipe. We also have complete MBRP systems that expand to 4.0 inches at 20 inches off of the turbo for MAX flow and HP.

I know the sound you are refering to it is quite noticable with straight exhaust when the turbo is spooled. It is called flutter and I think it is caused by the turbo blades. At first I was alarmed by it until I found out what it was now I just ignore it.
I thought one time I saw a 4 inch downpipe for the 94-97 PSD's, but i forgot who makes it. My next mod is going to be hacking the cat and muffler off but I want to replace the downpipe too. But I would like to find the biggest one possible because i feel that is the most important piece of an exhaust. So does anyone know a manufacturer of a 4 inch downpipe for my truck?
That Bassani system I got had a 3 1/2" DP and I used a porta power on the firewall. I bent the heck out of it to make it fit. I heard with a 4" you have to cut the firewall, Ouch!

If you don't mind making some room you can get a 5" DP. But of course this will involve some sheet metal work. Then you cane move some exhaust gasses.
I didnt want to spend any money on the exaust so i just gutted the cat with a bar and put it back on. Just cost me alittle anti-sieze. That combined with a kwikk filter was a noticable improvment.
