Switching Oil

2005 F250 6.0 I am currently using 15w40 Rotella changing every 5000 miles. Got 18000 miles on it now. Is it ok to use synthetic 5w40 Rotella in the winter and switch back to regular oil in the spring. Changing the oil every 5000 miles I see no need to stay with the synthetic all year round. Synthetic is twice the price.

IMO you are OK to use it now, however the oil you have in it now will work very well in the winter....also

from all the research I have done, you can switch from reg oil to syn and back without any problems. but the question is why? find an oil that you feel works for you and stick with it. I personally use mobil 1 15-50 full syn. No problems to date, just make sure the oil you switch to is recommended by ford.

Just so you know, Ford does not recommend specific brands of oils...dyno or syn. What they kinda, sorta mandate is the rating. CI-4+ and CI-4. With CI-4+ carrying the strongest recommendation for the 6.0.
