Hey, I have a question! I just bought some new Carhartt waterproof insulated steel toe work boots and I was told to use mink oil regularly on them. However, I have also heard not to use it. What do I do?

I called and they said to use the mink oil to condition the leather so it doesn’t crack. However they were not sure if the oil was bad for the leather overall or the whole composure of the boot either.
I have used mink oil on almost all my boots. It does a good job of keeping the leather form dying out and cracking and does an ok job as a waterproofer.
Ok, thanks for the help. On another note, I have been looking for a hunting rifle and I have heard that Savage rifles are some of the most accurate. They are also cheaper then other companies. I figured ide ask this question cuse most people who are into ford trucks and work boots might know somthing about hunting and/or shooting!
my dad just ordered one of the savage rifles from wal-mart. i think it was under 300. will try to remember to get back to you when we've shot it. might be a while for me to try it though.
i have a pair of carhartt boots and the lether is different then that of other boots ive seen. its very soft and its seems to have a film or resedu covering it... this is before if used the oil. i know that the boots are waterproof cuse the company swears by it but it seems like other companies boots look waterproff aswell.
i have a pair of Red Wing Irish Setter boots and i use some stuff called Nature Seal because of the gortex in them but very good boots ,but as suggested check with manufacturer as all boots are different
Unfortunately, for me, during college I used to have a job at a mall shoe store, no not Payless, selling quality boots, shoes, etc. MY recommendation is to use any kind of leather conditioner/oil as long as alcohol is not listed as being used in the product. Alcohol works against the conditioner/oil and will dry out leather. As for the rifle, Savage or any other "name" rifle will usually shoot more accurately then the person shooting the rifle is capable of. Happy Hunting
hey ford srgt how do you like your red wings i am thinking about getting a pair cause i haven't found a brand yet that will last more than a a full summers worth of work.a nd yes my boots do take a beating cement kills them
