I replaced my TPS last week.. thought that it might have fixed my klunk from 3-2 gear.. when i test drove it after replacing the sensor it seemed fine.. but today i noticed that it still does it.. from 3-2 at exactly 20 mph it klunks.. vey soft.. i can only hear it if my air is off and if i do not have the radio on.. any ideas??
sure i will do my best.. based on what i know.. the trans has 97k on it.. i bought the explorer with 84k and changed the transmission fluid.. gasket myself at about 85k.. the fluid was pretty dirty so i am not sure if it had been changed before or not.. the noise did not start until about 93k. hope this helps.. thanks again for your help
So i did take it in to my local dealer and they told me the throttle body was casuing the noise.. so i had it cleaned .. and some other general stuff that i did not want to do myself.. and got it out of the shop.. the noise is still there.. except now it happens only when it is above freezing outside.. i don't get it. i can drive it to work in the morning when its 28 degrees and hear nothing.. but when i get off and its 40 i hear the noise..on the way home.. Only in the 3-2 downshift..
I had a similar problem, and then lost a gear, took it to ford and they told me it was the control valve in the tranny, so I had it replaced by my mechanic(did it cheaper, and I trusted him), wasn't it, was referred to a tranny shop by a friend who had just had his rebuilt, and then found another with a good record, had him do it, and it still aint right, all the gears are ifne, it's the shifts that aren't, some are hard, some hesitate, it is just not good, took it back to him to have him fix it again, and that did nothing, so now i'm saving my money, and looking at getting a new tranny put in it.
