Hi, I'm putting a 400M motor into a 73 F250 Camper Special and just ran into the first major snag of the project. The primary drive shaft is several inches too short. With the Pillow Block lined up with the mount, the drive line yoke only slides about an inch onto the output shaft of the C6. Should I have the drive shaft lengthened or do you know of anyone that has made this conversion?
I may be able to get the original drive shaft back from the owner with a little coercion but this still may not solve my problem as the pillow block mount may be in the wrong place. What do you think?
If it comes down to lengthening it, then go to a junkyard, find a driveshaft that has the same ujoints ect... but the right size or longer, it is cheaper to shorten a driveshaft than it is to lengthen it.
I was looking at about $200 a driveshaft to lenghtn mine, but I got some longer shafts that'll be perfict to shroten and will only be about $75 a shaft(I have a 4wd).
