okay what really made the made the ranger gt different? i knew it had a body match bumper and a body kit but anything else? performance ? any pictures anyone? Why did they stop there construction?
i have only seen 1 ranger gt in my life.. and from the outside it just look like body/trim package. i have no idea what engine plant it had in it.. more than likely a 2.9..
2.9/5 speed/ 3.73 Limited Slip rear. They came with 14X6 aluminum wheels with goodyear eagles wrapped around them. The GT had an interior treatment too... not sure what all it was but they had some spiffy bucket seats in there.
Yeah it wasn't a GT in terms of performance but in terms of options. It came with lots of options standard. The buckets were standard, as was the "advanced" radio of the time. 3.73 LS standard, 2.9L standard and only option, auto not available. Basically the truck came only one way with a choice of paint.
It was pretty fun to drive for its time though. If that truck had come standard with the 2.3 turbo motor that the Turbocoupe had, or the supercharged 3.8 from the Supercoupe it would have been just about perfect.
Now, that's a real GT in my opinion. The GT and SS letters have always struck performance into my heart, not a Ranger with a 2.9L and a couple of options.
