So, my brother in law has an 04 with about 24000 miles, 6" lift, 37's and a steering stabilizer. He has had a hell of a time with the steering on it. He has had it in to a couple places to have them check it out, but nobody can seem to fix it. I finally got to drive it today(smooth motor by the way-MBRP 4" w/dual outs, Edge with Attitude, and AFE intake) and holly-sheet! It has about 3 inches of play in the steering wheel, and after you exit a corner, you have to play with it for awhile to get it straightened back out. I was all over the road! If you turn it enough for it so start going in that direction, and let go of the wheel, it stays going in that direction. I got in my 99 for comparison with a leveling kit and 35's, and it was night and day. I have almost no play and when I let go of the wheel it goes back to straight. Please help so he stops bitching about it
What was included in his 6-inch lift??? I did a 3.5 hanger lift on my SD and ended up putting a drop pitman and track bar bracket to get it back to steering like stock. A lot of guys have gotten away without doing that with a hanger kit, but my truck wanted to wander. I would imagine it would be a lot worse the higher up you go in lift.
well, i don't know if it would be the same problem or what, but on my 1995 i had the same symptons, and after a while it started to get real tight sometimes when i tried to steer it, play in the steering wheel and such, then one day it wouldn't turn to the right if i remember correctly, then all of a sudden..BOOM!! the power steering lines blew! towed it to the shop, they said something like a valve in the steering box broke somehow and it finally broke all the way, or something like that, it was a few years ago, have the steering box looked at. i had 35 inch ssr's on it with a 2 inch lift, they said someone my have ran into the tire and broke it a little, it was a snowy day when i first noticed it and i was parked backed in on a very open parking lot at work.
