A friend has told me that it is OK to use semi-tractor fuel in a 6.0 PSD. He says that he uses it when the temperature gets really cold because of the additives that are in it. Is this true and is it a good idea?
I also wanted to let everyone who has been so helpfull sharing information about diesel engines. I've decided to get an '06 F-250 with a 6.0 PSD. It will arrive here in Flagstaff the week between X-mas and New year. I'm Looking forward to many new adventures with more than enogh power.
wHAT your friend is talking about is #1 diesel which is used in the colder areas, and as KW said use a good fuel additive, good luck with the new truck.
Not sure if your friend knew this or not; but 'truck stop' diesel typically doesn't sit around in the station's underground storage tanks as long as your neighborhood station does. Less opportunity for water, algee, and other bad things to happen. And the prices tend to be lower too - I've seen 60 cents per gallon difference between the Conoco three blocks from my house or the truck stop 13 miles from my house. And I wonder how empty the Conoco storage tank will need to be before they fill it with the 'winter grade' diesel.

you live in AZ, how cold can it really get? the local truck stop probably sells winter blend for truckers that have to venture to north where really gets cold
