Well, there WAS a sponsor here selling warranties, but I don't see their name on the list anymore. Anyone know why? If you plan on keeping the truck forever, and you're not all that handy with a wrench, they can be a good value. Another question you need to ask is, "if the tranny fell out, do I have the cash to buy a new one?" If the answer is "yes," then you probably don't need an extended warranty. If the answerr is "no," then a warranty can be your new best friend!
Every time you buy something they offer you an extended warranty. It you save all that money instead you can pay for the rare failure you might have and if you dont have a failure you get to keep your money. Ever wonder why dealers push extended warranty's? Cause they know the odds are in their favor big time that you'll never use it and it's all gravy for them. My own strategy is to first and foremost buy quality, that is your greatest protection from needing an extended warranty. I just read an article on extended warranty's and they only recommend it for 2 things; digital camera's and notebook computers.
I don't know about the online warrantee's ford offers, but I know when I was selling Ford trucks in the late 80's and early 90's they were a 45-50% profit deal for the dealer.
Any dealer can up the warranty on your new truck. Can't hurt to call a few dealers and see what their prices are..
It is easy to bad mouth them when you dont need them...Any idea what a new trans costs, or an engine?? Waaay more then the 1-2gr the warranty costs. Also they make selling a breeze if you can pass on a little of the warranty..Obviously if your not keeping it significantly past 3/36, forget it.
And a digital camera. No way, unless you are getting a pro model. Mine came with a 1 yr warranty and at about a yr old it is practically obselete.
An extended warranty is not really a warranty at all. It is a high profit and high commission insurance policy against some mechanical problems. As with any insurance poicy, read the coverages and exclusions very carefully (really read the fine print). They are not all the same.
All you're buying is "piece of mind." I paid $700 for my extended warranty for our mini van. I sold the van and since I didn't use the warranty, was refunded $220. We drove the van for 5 years with the comfort, that we were covered for repair, rental car costs, hotel fees (if away from home), etc.
