Of course I waited until the first real New York snow storm to see if my four wheel drive works. I have a 2002 F150 SCrew 4x4 FX4 and the front wheels are not locking. The "4x4" light comes on the dash board when I turn the switch, you can hear the clicking sound (solenoid seems OK). I checked the vacuum line on the diff and it is still attached. Could the vacuum actuator be at fault? Any other items I should be looking at?
My Honda drives better in the snow than my truck does now! Help!
Check the shift fork (actuator) at the diff... posters have lubed this and got it to work. The fork is also prone to breakage.
We also had a poster fix a similar probelm by replacing the switch at the dash??? I'm unsure of how that would fix a problem at the diff since it is vacuum engaged unless one switch leg was bad. There are two vacuum switches on the passenger side firewall... check them both.
