i have new batteries and the gp system checks ok 8 new gp's, new gpr-110, and 5w-40 rotella but my 99 f-350 130,000 miles will not start after 12 hours or so of sitting? fuel losing prime ? hpop losing prime? cam sensor? deffinatly NOT gp system. it IS working correctly after startup it does have a dead miss till completely warmed up any help would be great thanks
well i've been using either (ouch i know ) if the problem continues i will switch to a squirt bottle with diesel but i just took apart my fuel filter and replaced the o-ring around the element figure it might be losing prime through the filter???cross your fingers for me that fixed it it seems to start and run better already
truck started this morning but i read to floor it and release the pedal. reset the values in the computer?? with the key on before cranking so i did that and the truck started right up. it was up around 30-35* though... so we'll see when it gets cold again
Quick test is to open the drain valve on the fuel filter - turn the key on - a steady stream of fuel should come out. (catch the dsl in a can - less mess)
Sounds like you at least have some fuel pressure.
Have you checked the oil level in the HPOP after letting it sit overnight?
There is a check valve that keeps the oil in the HPOP from draining back to the sump.
yeah got oil up to the top in the hpop after sitting checked that the other day, but buzz test how do you do that?? i was thinking maybe injector problem too????
I changed everything in my 96 a couple months ago and it still will not start on the first try when it gets into the teens and it sits all night but with a little experimenting I found that if you cycle the glowplugs twice with a short 3-5 second pause between and then crank the engine for a few seconds release the key and hit it again immediatly it fires every time w/no smoke and very little rattle associated with starting a cold engine. Might want to give it a try.
If you have acess to a good scanner one of the test you can do with it is caled a injector buzz test. It should test all 8 at once then go inorder from 1 to 8 and listen. they should all be the same level.
it has been starting much better since i changed the o-ring in the fuel filter but the next thing to buy is a good scanner, any suggestions?? i will no longer be changing parts till the problem is fixed already dropped a ton of money into this truck along with the no start problem i just got done doing front needle bearings my fault should have checked axle engagement it had one hub locked probably since i bought it in july... we'll see how it starts this morning its about 10* out!
while cycleing the key i hear a hiss coming from a fitting cant tell wich one though the one on the driver side head seems a little wet and the sound is coming from somwhere on that side i'm getting no smoke while cranking and it misfires pretty badd for a bout a half hour after starting if not plugged in
