Another Filter Question!!!

Does anybody know who makes the Bosch Priemium filters? I've been using them on my work car (99 3.1L Lumina) and have been pretty satisfied so far but it would would really have to be a poor filter before I could tell a difference. There normally like $6-$7 but I found them on sale for around 3.50 so I bought a whole pile of them.

Also everyone seems to be on the same page with wix filters being some of the best, so what is the wix number that would go on an 02 tuarus 3.0L OHV FFV (wifes new car). I picked up four from the parts house the other day (along with a fuel filter and a couple of air filters) but I want to make sure they are the right ones and all this talk about anti drainback vavles gets me thinkin. I cann't remember the number off hand so I'll ahve to look when I get home.

The truck (03 F250 CC V10) I've been using the good ol FL820S which I picked up 8 of them off of ebay for $13, I thought it was a heck of a deal But I also don't ahve to worry about the anti drain back valve when buying the MC filters.

SLE the BOSCH premium filters are identical to the walmart supertech filters. same everything. both are made by champion. the kicker is the supertech ones are only 2.07 .

The 3.0 FFV is the vulcan isn't it? The vulcan engine uses a 51516 filter which is smaller in diameter than the 51372. They have different thread patterns also. You can tell them apart easily. Either skinny narrow or fat one.

One other interesting piece of trivia...

If you drop the "5" off the front of the Wix number, you have the Napa number. Example:

Wix number 51773 is Napa number 1773.
Wix number 51515 is Napa number 1515.
Wix number 51372 would be Napa number 1372.

I run Wix 51773 filters on the FE as well a Rover. Word of caution is bang those filters, stick a screw starter magnetic end inside and blow the inside with a air nozzle as they (Wix) brand have metal flakes, ***** like from mig sparks inside the swaged cap, under the drain back rubber valve. What looked like dark blue/gray mig sparks between .003" to .007" size measured with dial indicator have been found besides small flakes in numerous Wix filters.

That's not good. Is this a common problem on the Wix? I have a few in the garage and they are becoming my filter of choice for my Lincoln since other brand filters are hard to find in my area. So I didn't want to hear that.

Not to alarm anyone or bash Wix I will go back to Hastings filters #426 that are 7" long, they use cotton as a filtering media. Adding a Hastings 426 filter to a motor way over due for oil change will clarify the oil I have found on a test. I'm on the two last Wix filers as I purchased twelve of 'em on sale but no more for me.

Was this on the filtered or unfiltered side of the filter?

I'm sorry but if I'm paying Napa prices for a filter, there had better not be any metal flakes in the filter, period.

I'll stick to my $3.00 MC filters.

i have never seen and metal pieces in a filter. nor has it been mentiuoned when people cut open new oil filters. also napa's price is pretty cheap 2.97 for a oil filter.

To the original poster's original question:

Bosch filters are made by Champion Labs. You might find this link interesting:

Who makes which oil filter?
