I am using Exide AGM Spiral Wound batts. I've also used the Optima. They're more expensive than most other liquid acid but the terminals NEVER corrode and I never need to worry about adding water. Get 1000 CA ones whichever you get. At lot of us use the Wal-Mart brand.
i get the batterys for my 88 from napa. i am now on my third set, they are less than 1 year old. got 3 years from the ford batterys, and 7 from both of the napa's
Make sure your starter isn't worn out. I replaced alot, but finally figured out it was the starter. It was only acouople of years old so I didn't think that woould be my problem. MISTAKE! Good luck.
I use the biggest "boat" batteries that will fit, can't afford to have dead batteries on the open sea!!!!They will hold the charge better and longer!

Yeah, I did the same thing with my '84 a few years back. Bought teo new batteries I didn't need.
FWIW I use Die Hard Gold. Tough batteries with lots of cranking amps. Sears "customer service" leaves much to be desired, but good battery all the same.
Thanks all for the info, went with the duralast gold was $160 out the door and came with a jump start card for 3 years if needed, should I be worried?.
However, noticed that the alternator belt "flaps" wildly. Went and pulled more tension on it and same thing?
Is this good, I don't remember it doing this before. It is a new belt with ribs on top, changed a few months ago while doing the water pump.
my alt. belt flaps wildly also. could never get the flap out. I think it is just too long of a run for the belt. I have never had any problems with it just looks like it is not right.
