225 Grand? You gotta be Shi!!!...pullin my leg!!
There was one at South Shore Tahoe, a few weeks ago. In the underground tunnel between Harrah's and Harvey's. I got up close & personal with it. Would've been nice to have the keys...just to hear what it sounds like. Or drive it.lol
We've got one coming in February, stickers for $154,000 or so. We're not sure what we're going to sell it for, but the market right now looks to be about $10,000 on top of that. Believe it or not, at that sticker price, there's only a 7% mark-up in the car. Markup on an Eddie Bauer Explorer is 8.5%.
1) Park Z06 in any parking lot in America and walk away. No one pays attention.
2) Park GT next to it, and time how many MINUTES it takes for crowd to gather around car, while continuing to ignore Z06.
THAT'S why the GT is $67K more, and the people that have those $ will gladly pay the price for that kind of attention. 0-60 and all that means squat to the REAL buyers of these types of cars.
Jeff- Can't argue with that, but for us mere mortals, it's nice to know you can get the performance for less than half the coin. And, I don't drive a car so that other people will look at it, I drive it 'cause I like, and can afford, it. But, more power to those who can $$$$$$$$$.
Wouldn't the GT win out in a road course race compared to a viper or z06?
Besides, the GT has so much history its just on a completely different level than the viper or vette. (to me at least, i konw the vette has a fair amount of history too.. but it just doesn't do it for me.)
I will argue one point though- although the Z06 doesn't have the eyeball of a GT, it's still noticed. Very much so- when a convoy truck comes into the Chevy store with a Z06 onboard, there's usually one or two cars following the thing into the lot. In person, the Z06 looks a lot different than a regular C6 Corvette.
edit: one of these days I want a side by side shot of these two.

You are talking about 2 different types of car in the Z06/Viper and the GT.
Irrespective of manufacturer, or what "looks" it gets here is my basic definition of the types of cars you are talking about.
Z06 - race car with number plates, quick as all hell, but nothing (and I don't want to tread on toes here) "special" about the thing.
Viper - a very, um, well "American" car. Quite popular in its homeland, not so anywhere else in the world. Considered quick, but unwieldly, and basic to the point of being crude.
GT - The only one of the group that honestly pull off the supercar nametag. A true mid engined original vehicle.
A car which is a source of pride in its homeland, and wears that blue oval badge like no other car. In Europe it holds a lot of respect (which says quite a lot) - and is able to swagger around with Pagani's, Ultima's, Koenigsegg's, Edonis's and the like.
It is a car which has gained universal praise due to the depth of its abilities.
Last year I was reading an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi (chief developer of the Gran Turismo game series) and Autocar.
Autocar asked him
"What was the favorite car he drove in the development process?"
Now the self confessed Nissan lover (he got the first 350Z off the production line) who drove some very cool cars (Caterhams, Lotuses, the Lemans winning Bentley Speed 8, Cadillac Cien Concept, RUF CTR2, Saleen S7, TVR Griffith 500). Responded:
"Well its hard to have a favorite after driving all of those cars, but there is one that still sticks in my mind. The Ford GT. There were cars I drove that were quicker, cars I drove which were better, but this car just seemed so much more special than anything else."
I mean here we are on a truck forum talking about walking down the street, and merely catching a glimpse of this car.
How many times do you think that happens for a Z06 or a Viper????
