c-6 HELP!!!!

i have an 85 f250 4x4 with a c6 tranny, i recently bought it, and it will not go in gear. if i put it in reverse,or 1st, it jumps a little, like it's in gear. but when i take my foot off the break and hit the gas it doesn't move... any suggestions? what are the best/worst case scenarios? i can work on motors all day long, but i'm new to trannys.

hmm, Sounds to me like your clutches are worn. Probably will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Does it act any differently in four wheel low or high?

no, i don't think so. the guy i bought the truck from said he drove it there, and moved it once, then when he went to move it again that was it. i was hoping it wasn't that serious.

Well first thing to do would be check the fluid and maybe pull the pan off of it and drain it, if he says he drove it then there can't be too much wrong with it. Wouldn't hurt to check the transfer case fluid either. You probably checked the transfer case to make sure it wasn't in neutral?

i recently pulled the pan, an drained the fluid, it was about 2 quarts low or so. i replaced it,and refilled the fluid, but the motor's not really running good enough to mess with it yet. i did check the transfer case, and it wasn't in neutral.
