i have a 98 f150, regular cab shortbed with the factory off road package. the front end of my truck sits about 2-3 inches lower than the back end. i know this is normal but id like to get rid if it if i can. would it be possible to take shocks that are made for a 2" lift and put them in the front to level it out? and if that could work would there be anything else that i would need to do as well?
Shocks will not effect ride height, they only dampen movement to keep you from bouncing down the road. To raise that front end up you'll want new springs or some people will get coil spring spacers which are kind of ghetto but will raise it up.
how about cranking the torsion bars. i have heard of people doing this, and raising the front end up about an inch so they ould fit 33" tires on the stock suspension.
I have heard of people cranking the bars, but I really do not know if it is safe or not. I would just say if you want to fit bigger tires trim you fenders and get a suspension lift. Wait for a few more posts to see what other guys say.
im happy with my 32" tires, got no clearence problems with them, im just trying to find away to raise up the front end alittle bit without having to buy a lift.
Sorry keyul, I spaced off that the 98 uses a different suspension. Shocks won't do it but if you don't get an answer here you might post in the forum specific to your year truck about those torsion bars. I know you can do this on a Chevy but I'm not 100% about the Ford. I'd assume they work the same but we need a definite answer.
I cranked my torsion bars up and lifted the front end 2 1/2 "98 F150 no problems yet, you have to do an alignment so if you need to do any other suspension part do it at the same time.
it has that rake fromt he factory so it doesnt sag in the butt so bad when your hauling heavy
33x12.50's on 16x8 wheels fit fine on our old 2003 f-150 supercrew...just had to lightly trim the corner of the valence on the front....
All you need is a socket I think 22mm?? and a tape measure. Its where the torsion bar goes though the cross member. Spray some bolt free or oil on the thread before you start its a bit of an armstrong thing. The tape measure is so you can see that both sides are the same hieght. You also have to roll the truck ahead about 4-5 feet before you measure the height.Roll forward not back, an impact gun works better but I don't have, I used a pipe and a 6-pack and a few chioce words to get it done!!!!
Sounds good. thanks or your help. ill try it out if we get a day when its not snowing, and after i wash the undercarrige. how do you measure it to see if there the same height?
