Wheel Bearings
I have a 99 ranger ext cab 4x4 with just under 100K miles. Would it be common for a wheel bearing on this truck with that amount of miles to fail? Do you think doing the hub lock conversion 500 miles before the wheel bearing went had anything to do with it failing?

It could certainly happen. I've heard of wheel bearings on F series trucks failing faster than that. However, if you've messed with that hub lately, I'd be more inclined to think that is the source of the problem.
From the sound of you post, you've already had the bearing diagnosed and replaced. If so, you'll never really know, and it probably doesn't matter.
