i was looking at a 79 f-150 4x4 without a motor. i am wanting to maybe put a 370 in it. it had a 351m with a c-6 automatic. i know the bellhousing with bolt up, but where can i find a automatic flywheel, torque converter, and starter. with this swap be worth it? i havent had any luck finding a 429 or 460 and i want something more than a 351 M or 400 has. can you help?
460's are very easy to find, look in any thunderbird or lincoln, 79 and older, they are all over the place, the standard 351M/400 torque converter should work, and the stock 460 flexplate will work. If youre near Maryland I have a rebuilt 460 for sale.
sorry, i live in ohio. i'm wanting to spend as little as possible i thought maybe i could get a 370 easier. all the 460s i've found have been out of my price range. if i would find a 370 it would probably have a standard fly wheel. I'll keep trying to find a 460 though.

When I installed a 460 in my 79 4x4 the torque converter bolted right up to the 460 flexplate.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Jan-02 AT 08:35 PM (EST)]When I did my swap,a friend offered to go under the truck to do up the tranny to the block.
Why should I turn him down ?,he's done this many times.
It turned out that the Front hub(NUB) on the 400 torque convertor was TOO BIG for the end of the crank/flexplate and he broke the bellhousing trying to force it.
$50 later for aluminium welding and $95 for a NEW 429/460 Torque Convertor,I drove it away.
