turn signal dilema

Hi, I am a new member to this site, so I wanted to give this a try. I have a 1978 F150 and I am having a problem with the turnsignals. When I turn them on (either direction) they will work well for a few seconds and then they will stop blinking and just stay on. I have replaced the flasher, but to no avail. Also sometimes they will work perfectly and then the next day they will act up. Has this happened to anyone before? I would greatly appreciate any advice. thank you

Are you sure you replaced the correct flasher ?

There are 2

The one on the fuse box is for Hazard lights

my hazard light flasher isnt on the fuse box, it hangs right next to my turn signal flasher.....before i found it, the signal flasher was hidden up behind the Ebrake...your symtoms sound like the flasher...

You could also have a bad socket that is shorting out or not making any contact with the bulb. The contacts on the bulb also wear out. Try wiggling all the bulbs and see if your problem occurs. Just my two cents.

Thanks guys, I did replace one flasher that was on a harness under the dash, but I will look again to see if there is another one and if that doesn't work I'll check the sockets. Appreciate the help

Get the signals to blink and follow the noise. There is a good tech article about testing and repairing lights - Articles link at top of page.

While we're in the general area... are 77's supposed to have a door open, headlights on, or key in buzzer? I ask because I'd like to have the headlight one, and I've seen a little green plastic box that looks like a speaker/buzzer mounted on the door pillar behind the instrument panel.

Hmmm. Then mine doesn't work either. I'll have to look at my wiring diagram. The former seat belt buzzer may soon become a headlight buzzer.

If I get it done I will. Is there a specific place to post or submit tech articles? or do I just do a normal post?

the 73-79 tips and tricks thread would probably be appropriate for that one...
