Had the motor apart a year ago, Bent three rods, Put an early style bottom end with my head. It looks like i raised the compression a little doing that because the dishes in the older pistons were smaller. In any case the head "was" fine. Why is the shrouding causing a major problem? On my afr 205s on my small block the valves actually stick out past the head surface. Of course i have 2.08's in there...

Already have the crane kit... coil, ignition, etc.. new Accell cap and rotor and wires, and just pruchased a chip.

The shrouding is a problem because it basically prevents either of the valves from flowing any air around half their circumference. The intake valve starts hurting about 0.080 off the seat and the exhaust at about 0.200. The chamber is about 9/16" deep in the middle of the chamber, so you'd have to open the valves about .600 just to get them past the chamber.

haven't looked at the head from a 300 recently but the vavle gets closer to the combustion chamber wall as it increases in lift? or am I going down the wrong path here. So basically there is nothing i can do about flow form .080 to .6 on the intake valve. that really sucks. why is it not a problem from seat to .080?

I have an older non-efi head would that be a better place to start and just bypass the egr?
