V.I.N. location

I recently acquired a 77 F150 from my Uncle and might have a problem finding the title. If i have to file for a lost title I need the VIN. On my 89 and 96 it is on the drivers side door jamb. There isn't anything on the jamb but a tag on the door. There is a 10 or 11 digit # but doesn't say VIN. I believe most #'s are 16 digits. Sorry if this is a basic question but there will be more. Thanks again guys. Matt

Either the door jab, a metal tab under the hood on the upper firewall on the passenger side, a metal tab inbetween the cab and bed on the passenger side, and on top of the frame rail on the front portion(don't remember driver or passenger side right now).

The eleven digit # on the metal tag on the drivers door is the VIN#. For your 77 F-150 it should start out something like F14........ Make sure someone has not replaced the door with a used one and did not change the VIN tag from the old door. You may be able to confirm the VIN by the "buck" tags on the firewall and front of the bed if they have not been removed, as MBBFord said. BTW, the VIN # on the frame should be on passenger side rail between the core support and cab mount somewhere. -Ed

Maybe have a look at this.

http://www.clubfte.com/users/mil1ion...ruckCodes.html

The 11 digit VIN# code ended in 1980.

Then is switched to a 17 digit code.
