Service Manuals

I want Santa to get me a set of Service Manuals for my 1975 F100 truck. From what I understand their were 5 books that covered everything. Is this right? I want the books and not the CD ROMs.

I've been somewhat good, sometimes.

E-bay is where Santa should look.

The cd is 1/3 to 1/4 the price of books. For the money you could buy the cd, print a full copy or two and still be ahead. Classic auto manuals in tyler texas has them(CD's), but their program is ungainly and so far I can not print from it. Good thing I can screen capture.

I like the idea of books myself, but with cd's or even photocopies of pages you can have just what you need without packing the whole book around. I have useful reference pages in plastic sleeves so they don't get too mucked up.

I am a Mac User, although we have a Dell for the kids. Most CDs only operate on IBMs. The Dell gets hammered by viruses and spyware all the time, so it's a constant battle to keep it running. People go out of their way to destroy IBMs, but care less about Macs.

I would rather have the books just for giggles. I don't have to worry about scratching them or the software on them becoming obsolete. They don't require a hard drive and won't slow up my system, plus I can read them in bed. All good!

I second Tjay's endorsement of Ebay. If you're patient you can nab a full set for under $50. I don't have any experience with our truck manuals on CD but I have a set of CD's that is currently being used by the dealerships for my newer car. I 100% would rather have it in book form. The ONLY advantage to the CD set as far as I'm concerned is you can print out the pages you need and have them with you as you work without being concerned about getting them dirty because you can just throw them away. Books are a lot easier to use IMO (and I'm proficient in using a computer, something else to keep in mind, depending on the person a computer might intimidate the end user).

Go to any automotive swap meet and there should be at least 3 book vendors at it.
If you can't wait or find one on Ebay go here.

I don't think Helm carries anything for the older ford trucks.

I bought the whole set of 1975 shop manuals at Iola Old Car Show in WI for $50. They are in near perfect condition. So far I have found only two grease smudges. They cover everyting from an F100 to L9000 (I think).

I just bought the full 5 book set for my '77 from a company called Faxon Auto Literature. They had them in stock and they had them to me in 3 days. They weren't exactly cheap...$172.00 including shipping. The set covers all models from '77 from F100 through F350...including the "E" series vans.

You can call them at (800) 458-2734.

Hope this helps.

Wow, that's the most I've seen for the set. I was pricing a set on e-bay around $80. I'm assuming there's only so many of these left in existance. What do the books cover and how many pages are in each one?

Mine is a full 5 book set. They cover everything you can imagine...with the exception of some of the smog. The whole set laid side by side is about 6" thick. I don't know how many pages there are...

I thought about e-bay too...they are cheaper, or so I hear. But I wanted the books and I wanted to be sure I got what I wanted. It's my understanding that on e-bay you have to bid on items...and you might not be the high bidder. It was worth it to me to get exactly what I wanted...when I wanted it.
