ok i got a few things i am trying to find out i did something stupid and bought a 94 extracab ranger site unseen the body is perfect and so is the motor it is a 4.0 v6 with a 5 speed i paid 200 bucks for the truck the problem is bad tranny i was wondering how good these trannys hold up it is a one owner truck and another thing is what all is involved in swaping a t5 out of a mustang in to this truck i been told it could be done
Its probably gonna be more work puttin the t5 into the ranger than just getting another 5 speed. I guess the 5 speeds are supposed to be pretty good trannys. If your going to put in a T-5 go for the gold and put the 5.0 in front of it. I think the problem with the 4.0 and the T-5 is going to be finding an adapter to adapt the bellhousing to the 4.0 block. Then also, i believe the 5.0 uses a cable clutch release, and i'm actually not sure what the rangers is (mechanical or hydraulic or cable). But either way you'll have to do adapting there. Also you might have to do some drive shaft adapting depending on how much longer/shorter the tranny is. And if its a 4x4 then your looking at a tcase adapter and more driveshaft resizeing. It can be done, but your probably better off just getting a 5 speed out of a bone yard.
well its a 2wd and will look in to the 5.0 swap for a futre project but that will be a year or so from now i am just going to get one from the bone yard and stick it in do yall think i got a good deal on the truck and i see they are good truck by what i have read on here this is my first range so im starting a new class in the school of autos ty for your reply

Find a rplacement 5-speed. Not sure if the 94 had the problem with the rubber plugs in the shifter housing dry rotting and leaking. It was a problem on the mid-90's 5-speeds. If what you install has these plugs, at keast replace them with new ones. Many folks have replaced them with brass plugs. Id di the rubber replacement on mine.
Anyway, I wouildn't beat yourself up. I think you did pretty well for $200.00. how many miles on the engine??
Might want to replace all of the clutch components (clutch disc, clutch pressure plate, throw-out bearing/slave cylinder) while you have the tranny out. Also, turn the flywheel and, replace the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft and replace the engine rear main seal.
I'm assuming this truck has the hydraulic clutch. If so, do not pdepres the cluthc pedal once you disconnect the cluthc hydraulic line "quick-disconnect" fitting and install a bench bled slave cylinder. I used all Ford components on mine. It cost more money but I had not problems. I used auto parts store stuff on my 96 Explorer and it still doesn't work correctly.
