I have a 2005 6.0L. What are the performance differences between a turbo-back and a cat back. What about the sound and the spooling up of the turbo?
One last thing, is there a difference between the aluminum and the stainless steel exhuast other then the obvious that the stainless steel will last longer.
I have an 04 F350 6.0, with a MBRP Performance Exhuast turbo-back. I have noticed less turbo-lag, louder, and you hear the turbo whistle. I'd say it gives you better performance and reduces the Egt's. For stainless steel I like it because I think it is more heavy -duty and take more abuse.
Save your money and just mod your OEM exhaust. drop the muffler and replace with 3.5" pipe. And if feeling brave the same to the cat. If you like loud then deleting both will put a smile on your face. About the same as a dual 40 series Flowmaster. And the idle sound is great if you like the whine "whistle" of the turbo. Like a small jet from few hundred feet away. Friend of mine did both, I am worried about DOT so left mine alone(the cat that is), just not that brave. Cost should be about $50-60 for each.
Tdusseau... is ur truck much louder w/ the muffler delete pipe? when i say louder.. i mean both turbo whistle and exhaust sound.. i want more turbo spoool than anything.. i'm just looking for it to sound like a fighter jet taking off..
If your looking for the jet fighter sound you wont get it from dropping the mufflerI took the muffler off my 2004 and it did not change it any at all, I bought the hog exhaust and deleted the cat and that was a world of diffrence it sounds like jet now
P8ntballn2; Foxdoc is right you will not get the whistle you are looking for by deleting just the muffler you will have to do both. But if you ask me it is worth it. If you are going to do both it can be done for under $150. And mine(oops) I mean my friends was done with unbent pipe and it fits great, just flared the ends as usual and then welded. Oh yeah! keep your cat and muffler, just in case you get caught. Cat is very expensive. I like using the factory exhaust due to cost, and then if you like the sound and just have to have an aftermarket exh. then you know what it should sound like. The choice is yours.
ok cool... so you have just a strait pipe for the muffler.. and a strait pipe for the CAT.. sounds good.. would i be able to clamp those in?... i dont have access to a welder.. and i could get the piping.. clamping would be eaiser for me.. and about the big *** thing under there that looks like a resonator maybe.. its just b4 the muffler.. looks like a big coffee can?.. what is that?.. should that stay or go?
p8ntballn2; the only way you will get the jet sound you want is to go aftermarket exhaust delete the cat or the big coffee can. I like the hog exhaust system because of the sound, the 2003 truck sounds better than the 2004-05-06,they say its because of the number of vanes the turbo has the 03 has less vanes .my friend has a 03 and a hog exhaust, dogs used to chase him through the nieghborhood after installing the exhaust they wont come near it, it has a more pronounced whistle than my 04 and also louder, my tech told me to put a 03 turbo on my truck and I could have that sound also but thats about 1400.00 bucks but I will say this the hog exhaust was the best 600.00 I ever spent on my truck, hope this helps a little
ya.. my truck is an 03.. but just had the turbo replaced back in july.. so i'm not sure if they replaced it w/ another 03 turbo.. or put in an 05 turbo..
they most likely replaced it with a 03 to my understanding and some of the other guys can chime in here I belive to use the 04-06 turbo you have to change the stand or housing I am not really sure some of the older guys on the site could tell you more
alright.. cool.. i'll look around a lil more.. i wanna get gauges first.. gonna do that this week.. get those installed... then look into exhaust.. by XMas .. then a chip by spring time... it sounds pretty good now.. its a 03 350 CC king ranch 9" lift on 38's.. i think its got 4.30's for gears.. (bought it used, used a calc to figure that out) and it moves pretty quick.. quicker than my old stock chevy 1/2 ton on stock tires.. lol.. i raced a jetta 1.8T last night on the interstate.. they tried to go around me.. and i just put it to the floor.. and left them in my black smoke.. first time i had really let her go like that.. felt soo good.. and i had the bigest grin
